Shakib, Shafiul return for Ireland T20s

Good News Bangladesh have brought back allrounder Shakib Al Hasan and medium-pacer Shafiul Islam to their squad for the Twenty20 matches in Ireland and the Netherlands in July. Teenage batsman Anamul Haque and allrounder Farhad Reza are the omissions from the squad that failed to make the final of the Twenty20 tri-series in Zimbabwe. Shakib had been rested for the tri-series. Akram Khan, Bangladesh's chief selector, said Anamul had been left out so he could focus on the upcoming Under-19 World Cup in Australia this August. "He [Anamul Haque] has a lot of time and I think if he plays in the age-level World Cup, it will bring more maturity to his game," Akram said. Anamul scored only 16 runs in three matches during the T20s in Harare. Shafiul returned to the side after being sidelined by a shoulder injury he sustained during the Asia Cup in March. "We have always maintained that we are not in favour of major changes in the team," Akram said. "Shafiul is one of our first-choice pace bowlers so his return will be a boost." The tour begins with a three-match series against Ireland between July 18 and 21 in Belfast. The second leg is at The Hague, where Bangladesh play Scotland on July 24 and Netherlands on July 25. It will be Bangladesh's second preparatory tour ahead of the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka in September.

Squad Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Mahmudullah, Tamim Iqbal, Mohammad Ashraful, Junaid Siddique, Jahurul Islam, Shakib Al Hasan, Nasir Hossain, Ziaur Rahman, Elias Sunny, Abdur Razzak, Mashrafe Mortaza, Shafiul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Abul Hasan.

Indian Yuvraj Singh ruled out of IPL

India batsman, could be ruled out of cricket for as many as six months due to the ongoing treatment of his non-malignant lung tumour. This means he will at least miss the Asia Cup and the IPL, where he captained the Pune Warriors last year.

The last time Yuvraj played competitive cricket was the Tests against West Indies last November, and he was originally hoping to return as early as next month's ODI tri-series in Australia. According to PTI, quoting an unnamed source from the IPL, Yuvraj is currently overseas. He has travelled to the United States in order to undergo "advanced treatment" for the tumour following which there will be a period of recuperation expected to take several months as well. This means he would not be available to play in the IPL, which starts on April 4. The unnamed IPL source said it could take up to "six months" for Yuvraj to return to cricket.

Morkel gives South Africa another Number01

Morne Morkel, the South Africa fast bowler, has replaced Graeme Swann as the No. 1 ranked bowler in one-day internationals, giving South Africa the top spot in five categories across Tests and 50-over cricket. Morkel, who took 4 for 22 in the second ODI against Australia in Port Elizabeth, has climbed four places while Swann has slipped two after a disappointing series against India where he took just two wickets in four matches. However, to highlight how frequently the rankings can shift, Morkel could lose his position after the deciding ODI against Australia if he does not perform.  For now, Morkel's elevation puts him alongside team-mate Hashim Amla who occupies the top batting position in ODIs. Jacques Kallis is currently the No.1 Test batsman and allrounder while Dale Steyn is the top Test bowler. South Africa have not played Test cricket since January but will resume five-day action next month with a two-Test series against Australia before facing Sri Lanka either side of Christmas.
